Description
The Octave Steel Tongue Drum by Meinl Sonic Energy has a central bass note D and eight additional tones arranged in a ring around it. It is tuned to D Kurd, a minor scale in D, well-known from the handpan. The sound is warm and deep, with a soft, slightly melancholic character. Compared to the related D Amara scale, D Kurd includes the additional note Bb, giving it a slightly darker tone.
Each of the eight outer tones consists of two tongues and sounds simultaneously in two octaves. This makes the drum sound full and resonate for a long time. With a 40 cm diameter, it is the large model of the Octave series and has more volume and depth than the smaller variants. The silicone plug in the sound hole on the bottom allows for a more compact sound.
The black stainless steel body is adorned with a laser-engraved floral pattern. The drum is suitable for meditation, sound work, and free play. Since all tones belong to the same scale, beginners can start without prior knowledge.
